BACKSTORY:
Hannah Smith was an experiment by her parents, two scientists that worked for a shadowy government research group. It was the combination of two government projects, and she the culmination of both; teaching someone and having them retain information while asleep, and potent psychic powers. Psychics tended to be fairly powerful but their range made them difficult to deal with. Hannah was put into the pod at the age of 4 by her parents. They wanted to create a psychic that had a much smaller range and could act within infiltrating small rebel cells embedded within the United States and read their minds without being overwhelmed by the vast mental stimuli of being near too many people at once. However, funding was pulled from the project after a nearby cartel found out about their operations. A man named Ryder personally led an assault on the underground government structure and killed the entire staff in a bloody rampage. Unable to access the stasis room that held Hannah within the base, he instead destroyed everything else he could get his hands on.With the power source destroyed, she eventually was released from her pod, now 17. She managed to escape from the laboratory room and the rest of the ruined research base. Her pod had been fueled by geothermal energy and a short caused it to release early, which saved her life. Half-starving from a lack of nutrients, she made her way to the road and was picked up by none other than Ryder, who took her back to his hideout and crew. Alone and not knowing any better, and with only the skeletons of her parents in the base as a memory, she decided to trust him.He and his crew did not treat her badly, but they did not go out of their way to show her kindness. Ryder saw her as a bargaining chip to be used, not as a person, especially a young starving girl. Their partnership was less modern slavery and more a convenience. When a strange woman came into the area calling herself "Red", he proudly showed off Hannah and her "tricks", where she could tell someone what card they were looking at or what was on their mind. Recognizing Hannah's abilities as psychic in nature, Red bargained with Ryder and arranged for Hannah to be brought into her care.
Red took Hannah to Switzerland and to a small cottage in an idyllic little valley, where she nursed the psychic back to health and helped her fill in her gaps in some of pop culture. Hannah watched shortform videos on the internet to try and fit in as a teenager while Red taught her how to use weapons, how to care for for herself, how to clean, cook, and then began working on her psychic abilities. She'd been fed a constant flow of information while in the tube, and so knew a lot of information, but utterly lacked in other areas.Hannah's powers had been present since birth, but they blossomed under Red's strict but patient tutelage. Red struck a good balance between requiring fair work at the cottage to upkeep it and being kind and patient with a girl who knew quite a bit about mathematics and science and technology but had very few social skills and very little in the way of pop culture knowledge. The most important thing Red taught her was masking; the ability to fit into nearly any social situation and manipulate those involved.Together, Hannah and Red formed a methodology to break into someone's mind and extract knowledge from them, which Red would then sell on the black market. Hannah used non-sequiturs to force her way through logical barriers and mind traps within the victims mind. This became their signature move and they began to grow a reputation for doing this.
RECENT HISTORY
After Hannah was visited in her dreams by an otherworldly being with far too many eyeballs, she learned this being was a messenger from an Eldritch being calling itself the Eyeless. The Messenger had been sent to gather information from her specifically, and it vanished not long after this encounter, leaving her with an intense feeling of dread and confusion. Not long after the dream encounter, she faced it in reality and the dread sunk even further, though it never directly hurt her. A few months passed, and then an alien invasion overtook the city she was currently staying in. These monsters were psychic, and they had the ability to inflict powerful psychic visions and dreams upon her, which left her terrified, and she eventually learned their name; the Xenomorphs. They were powerful, fast, and had no eyes, and made their way through the city with horrifying speed, taking hosts back to their Hive and using them as incubators for their young. Red—now going by Evelyn—feared for Hannah's safety and was taken up to a small settlement on a distant world, a safe house that no one on Earth but two people could access. With her was a small child named Beth. The safehouse was loaded with food and supplies for them, and a sense of safety settled over the two even as the portal that got them there closed.Beth and Hannah became fast friends, like sisters, over the course of the next month. But with food running out, they couldn't stay up there forever. They began to think that they'd been abandoned, until a portal opened in the distance outside the house. The world had little oxygen and the house had to produce breathable air for them to remain there, which made going to the portal a big risk. They eventually ran out of other options and made their way to the portal. Hannah and Beth both went through, stumbling through with the last of their energy, but when Hannah woke up, Beth was gone. Haunted by her perceived abandonment of Beth, and now with no idea where Evelyn was, she found herself being tracked by a cannibal named Harrison, a servant of the Eyeless.Hannah also learned that her mentor and closest friend was apparently killed in Nebraska, leaving her entirely alone.Harrison caught up to her and kidnapped her, then stuck her in a barn where he psychically blocked the majority of her memories. She eventually broke free, but with her memories suppressed, she lost the little bit of herself she had left. With no one around her to tell her who she was, she existed as a shell of her former self until she stumbled across Britney, a monster hunter that recognized her and took her back home. Harrison was killed by a powerful being and Hannah's memories were unblocked, which let her remember Beth and Evelyn, her mentor. With her memories back and Harrison dead, she set up a series of jobs to get some more money.Cienn Sinclair journeyed to her and informed her that she had found Beth, dead, in a Xenomorph Hive deep underground. Hannah was utterly devastated at the news and lashed out at Cienn, calling her a coward, since the creatures that killed Beth had originated from Cienn during the last invasion. Hurt and heartbroken, she demanded that Cienn leave. After working with two highly skilled operatives, she got the money she wanted, then turned around to immediately suffer through another alien invasion. It had been 11 months since the last invasion and she found herself woefully underprepared for this next one; these monsters were red, and led by an alien Queen that called herself Bloody Mary and had an unusual sense of self compared to the last Queen. The Queen was vindictive and sent out psychic visions to Hannah, tormenting her around the clock until Hannah began to change fundamentally, becoming more violent during the visions. It reached a point that she stood in an alleyway alone late at night, hoping that the aliens would take her and kill her. Here she met Jason, a man a few years older than her, who saved her from a drone. They fought many Xenomorphs together until they finally made it to his penthouse, bloodied and broken. This was the start of a friendship between the two of them. Hannah continued to weather the visions as best she could, but each time the vision took a bigger toll on her mind, until she was bleeding from her eyes, ears, and nose with every vision. They came every 3 hours and it got so bad that she presented the same as if she were having a grand-mal seizure.Hannah helped Jason by alerting him when there were Xenomorphs nearby, and when the time came, she went to the Hive with a group of other metahumans and killed a bunch of the aliens, seeking retribution for the mental distress they'd caused her. Her psychic powers tripled and she was able to warn her squad of an incoming terror, then fled from the Hive. After leaving the Hive, she and Jason were reunited (they'd split into separate teams prior to entering the Hive) and they took on the Alpha, which was an alien creature born from Jason. Hannah was injured from the Hive fight, and Jason wasn't in much better shape, while the Alpha had a considerable advantage over them. The Alpha looked like it was about to win, when Jason's husband, Roy, emerged and distracted it, creating an opening for Jason to decapitate it.Exhausted, bloodied, but victorious, they went home to get patched up. Shortly after their fight, Bloody Mary was destroyed by a powerful metahuman, and Hannah and the others gained a profound sense of relief. The red Xenomorphs were destroyed, and Evelyn reappeared, to mixed feelings from Hannah.Hannah, recovering from the intense psychic disturbances, realized that the Eyeless was the god of these Xenomorphs, and Bloody Mary was indirectly under his bidding. Late one night, she encountered a man with long black hair that was under orders to kill her. Jason and Roy managed to fight him off, but he swore he'd return, and later, he made good on his promise. He arrived without warning, declaring his name as Silas, and killed Hannah by removing her heart, claiming to be commanded to do so by the Eyeless so it would save his daughter, named Beth.Hannah's soul was stuck into a crystal shard on a distant planet; the homeworld of the Xenomorphs. While the heroes of Earth staged a massive invasion of Xenomorph Prime, having finally realized the source of the last two invasions, she was reawoken by Jason, Roy, and Lian destroying the crystal that harbored her soul. Her body was recreated, and the heroes destroyed the Queen Mother and the Crystal that held the power of the Eyeless as an anchor, allowing him to influence events and people in their distant quadrant of the universe. With the Crystal destroyed, Eyeless lost all power in the area, effectively cutting him off from them for perhaps millions of years. Cienn, one of the many that went to Xenomorph Prime, returned everyone home.Jason officially adopted Hannah, but a life with a family wasn't what she was used to. After nearly a year of living with the small family, she turned 20 and moved out to experience life on her own.
